In 1892 the Woodstock Railroad bought the No. 2 "Edward H. Williams," a new 40-ton American Standard 4-4-0 from the Baldwin Locomotive Works and the line's first coal burner. Because the Williams weighed 70 tons when coaled, watered and ready for the road (25% more than the Dewey), it was carefully tested on the famous wooden bridge over Quechee Gulf. An illustration from 'Over the Hills to Woodstock' by Edgar T. Mead, Jr., from the Shortline Railroad Series published by The Stephen Greene Press.
