Handwritten note on reverse: "This is engine 843 hauling an express from Portland. Went in to a derail last fall cause of running a target. You can see her heading light on the ground, but she was but slightly injured. I have made a slight mark over the bridge indicating the position of the East Somerville station and is but a step from where I live. I went down at the time and saw them put this engine on. The large building seen at the right is the factory of Stickney and Poor."
