The Streetcar Named Gratitude: from New York to Vienna to Connecticut. No. 4239 was built as 679, a lightweight city streetcar, by the Third Avenue Railway Co. in 1939 at its own shops, Third Avenue at 65th Street in Manhattan. 679 ran for ten years in New York, then was shipped to Vienna, Austria, as Marshall Plan aid to the war-ravaged city. After 17 years service there, the City of Vienna donated the car to the museum, as a gesture of gratitude. Schedule of Trolley Operation for Visitors: Open 11 AM - 5 PM July and August - daily; June, September & October - Saturday & Sunday. April, May, November - Sunday.
