Part of the Boston & Maine railway family until the 1930s, the Mount Washington Cog Railway operated summer excursion trains just 3.5 miles up the side of Mt. Washington to Summit, New Hampshire, for which tiny but powerful geared steamer #4 was named. This view circa 1950.
