Built as a parlor-observation car by Pullman in 1928 for the Chicago, North Shore & Milwaukee Railway, Car 420 initially was a trailer and was fitted with individual rotating armchairs. In storage from 1932 to 1943, it was brought out to help carry wartime traffic; it was converted to a regular passenger coach in 1943 and was motorized. IT was operated in suburban service until abandonmentof the North Shore Line in 1963 and was subsequently acquired by the museum.
